Everything changes

Well, it seems as soon as I post something, it changes! I have decided to go back to work. They are being extremely flexible with me working around Brett's schedule, and I got a raise!! I will still only be in the office 1 or 2 days a week and working only around 20 hours a week, but I think I will enjoy getting out of the house. And of course, Brett is so excited to have Daddy/Daughter time every week! And...cloth diapering is down the tubes, for now anyway. Kayleigh has a super bad diaper rash, so until that's all healed up, she is back in Pampers.

We had a nice week, even though it was Brett's long week at work. We had some friends over Wednesday for dinner. We walked to the park and ended up hanging out with all our friends in the neighborhood. A few more people came over for dessert. I made a good southern meal for our California friends...fried chicken, macaroni & cheese, and corn on the cob. It was delicious! I also had a few doctor's appointments this week and will be having outpatient surgery on the 28th of the month. It should be a pretty easy procedure, but hopefully healing will go better than the first time around. Thankfully, Nicole will be visiting. Little does she know, she's going to have to play nurse when she comes! We are so excited for her visit. She will be here a couple of weeks while Jared is at a CG school in Texas. I can't wait to shop and have girl time!

Well, I'm going to get back to playing with Kayleigh and cooking dinner to take to the station for Brett! I hope everyone is doing well...and I promise I will post new pictures of Kayleigh soon! I'm the worst about taking pictures even though I know I'm going to regret it later when she's all grown up!

Cloth Diapering

So I decided to give cloth diapering a shot, and everyone was curious to see how I did. To be honest, I think everyone thought I was crazy and I would never last. I wasn't so sure how it would go, but I wanted to give it a shot. A. Because I'm cheap and diapers are EXPENSIVE! B. It's kinda gross to think about a landfill filled with piles and piles of poopy diapers, wrapped in plastic no less. C. Cloth diapers are just so darn cute! So her first month, we traveled quite a bit and we went through diapers like crazy, so we stuck with disposables (Pampers actually b/c they are the best!). I only bought a handful of cloth diapers until I decided if I liked it. So starting in her second month, I gave them a try. And...I love it! She is so stinkin' cute in them. They have made major improvements in them these days, so they are really easy to use. I have the traditional prefold diapers with covers. I have snappies for the traditional prefolds instead of pins, which are way easier to use. I also have a few BumGenius diapers. They are great! They are one-size, that's right, they fit from 7 lbs to 35 lbs., and all you have to do is stuff the liner in the pocket and velco it on. The prefolds with covers are certainly the cheapest way to go, but when you figure that you can use one BumGenius until you potty train, $19 bucks ain't so bad! When we are home, I really only use the cloth diapers. Well ok...I cheat at night. At night I have been using a disposable since it absorbs better, and she is sleeping through the night. I'm not crazy enough to mess with that! But overall, I am a believer! And...GASP...we have even been using cloth wipes. Plus, I feel great about doing something for the environment. You know since it's cool to be green these days. For those of you interested, I have posted my favorite websites and cloth diapering products. Tomorrow I'll take a picture of Kayleigh in her cute little diapers and post that as well!

July Fourth!

Hope everyone had a great Fourth of July! Brett had duty, so Kayleigh, Cristi (our neighbor), and I went to the station to watch fireworks on the boat. We had to go out early, so Brett could do security to clear an area for the barge to shoot the fireworks from. It was a beautiful day and the fireworks in Sausalito were great! We had the best view, and it was really neat to see Brett at work. He was directing all of the security including the local police boats, fire boats, and marina security! Unfortunately, I forgot to charge the battery on my camera, so this is the one picture I got. Kayleigh did great and slept in her carrier the whole time! I forgot to get a picture of her cute outfit, so I'll have to dress her up again and pretend it's July Fourth. :)

On another note, the day before we had Kayleigh's two month check-up. I can't believe she's already 2 months! Time flies! She had her first round of shots (besides the one she got at the hospital). I'm so glad Brett was there, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. She weighs 11 lbs 3 ozs and is 24 inches long. She's in the 97th percentile for length and 66th for weight. I think she is going to get some height from her Dad. The doctor couldn't believe how great she is doing and that she is already sleeping through the night...well most nights. I can't complain though because even on a bad night she still sleeps at least 6 1/2 or 7 hours. She is also smiling all the time now! I love to see her little smiles and laughs! She is especially happy when she wakes up.

Brett is staying busy at the station, especially this weekend with everyone out on the water, but he loves his job and likes to stay busy. I have decided not to go back to work. With Brett's hours and unpredictable training schedules, working part-time just isn't going to work out. I am happy about staying home with Kayleigh and being a mommy and a wife! That certainly keeps me busy enough! I am especially looking forward to Brett's days off and exploring the city!
